Act Two Entertainment is proud to present the world premiere of SHAKEDOWN STREET, a new musical written by Michael Norman Mann with music and lyrics by Jerry Garcia and Robert Hunter. This stylish comedy-thriller is a panoramic tale of crime in the city. In the Mission district of 1940s San Francisco, a granite-jawed, down-on-his-luck private eye is caught in a web of deceit and betrayal as he attempts to uncover a mysterious art thief ring. With tongue planted firmly in cheek, SHAKEDOWN STREET becomes a boulevard of hot nights and cold-blooded murder in a mystery that will keep you guessing while humming along to classic tunes such as “Truckin’’, “U. S. Blues”, “Scarlet Begonias” and other tunes originally recorded by the iconic rock band, the Grateful Dead. Featuring six new songs by famed lyricist Robert Hunter, SHAKEDOWN STREET is the must-see show at this year’s ever-eclectic Ninth Annual Fringe Festival. "We are very excited to have this musical premiere as part of such a great gathering of talent from around the world," said Hunter. This production is being directed by Jeff Griffin. Casting by Sara Schatz at Dave Clemmons Casting will be announced shortly.
Act Two Entertainment is a new production company based in Austin, Texas that has produced award-winning plays, short films, and television. Previous credits include Abyss, The Blue Room, The Dead Nevada, The J. Knox Show, Millworker, The Legend of Zia I & II, and the upcoming One Day Maureen. Michael Norman Mann is a San Francisco Bay Area playwright whose works include the award winning play BOX 27 and Cumberland Blues. Robert Hunter and the late Jerry Garcia are among the founding members of the band, The Grateful Dead that is celebrating its 40th anniversary in August 2005.
